Bush, Obama, and Pop Music
Mood:  not sure

Michael Stipe and I believe others from R.E.M have mentioned a few times that bad politics tend to produce good music.  If he's right, it will be interesting to see how the music scene holds up in the Age of Obama, a time almost certain to produce saner and more rational policies than those conjured up in the darkness of the last eight years by Bush and the neo-cons.

From rap to punk (Green Day the most obvious and commercial example) to "alternative" (R.E.M.) to classic rock (Springsteen, Neil Young), much of the most acclaimed work done over the last eight years has been an often bitter reflection and response to the never ending and seemingly pointless war in Iraq as well as the Administration's encroachment upon our civil liberties.
